RCMP have intercepted multiple illegal border crossings as Canada strengthens security under U.S. pressure. In Alberta, officers responded to two incidents near the Coutts border crossing. On February 4th, a driver attempting to enter Canada fled secondary screening. RCMP later pursued the vehicle to Raymond, Alberta, where the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The day before, nine individuals—including five youth—were arrested after crossing the Coutts border on foot. In Manitoba, on January 14th, six people were caught 15 km east of Emerson after a surveillance plane alerted ground units.

The RCMP continues to monitor border activity closely. Trump threatened 25% tariffs on Canadian imports and 10% on energy, citing border security and fentanyl concerns. On Monday, he hit pause for 30 days after Canada pledged tougher action, including a fentanyl czar and cracking down on Mexican cartels. Both Canada and Mexico agreed to boost border security with 10,000 more personnel, and now the RCMP has Black Hawk helicopters patrolling the Alberta-Montana border.
