COVID-19 is claiming the lives of seven more individuals in Alberta.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Friday the additional deaths which raises the province’s total to 39.

Four of the deaths were in the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre. There have now been 17 deaths from this facility.

One additional death was in the Calgary zone, while the other two were in the Edmonton zone.

There are also 49 new cases across the province, putting the total at 1,500. The number of recovered cases is also increasing as 713 individuals no longer have the virus.

None of the new cases are in Wood Buffalo, keeping it at six across the RMWB – four in Fort McMurray and two in the rural area.

The north zone continues to have 97 cases, which is the same as the previous day.

Just over 200 cases are suspected of being community-acquired, while 48 individuals are currently being treated in the hospital with 13 being in the ICU.
