Canada Post Presents Framework to End Postal Strike
Canada Post says they have taken a step towards reigniting negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). On Sunday, December 1, 2024, Canada Post presented CUPW with a comprehensive framework aimed at resolving the ongoing strike snarling letter mail and parcels from coast to coast to coast.
The proposal is the first sign of progress since a federally appointed mediator suspended talks last week, stating that the parties were “too far apart” to warrant continued bargaining.
While specific details of the framework have not been disclosed, Canada Post stated that it includes measures to increase flexibility in its delivery model while addressing other key issues raised by the union.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers, which received the proposal late Sunday, has not yet issued a public response.
The strike comes at a critical time as holiday mail volumes increase. Both sides face mounting pressure to reach an agreement and minimize disruptions during the busy Christmas season.
