No fines have been handed out to people in the RMWB for failing to follow measures in place to combat COVID-19.

In a statement sent to Mix News, the municipality says there have been several complaints, however, they’ve been resolved through education and warnings.

Last month, the provincial government introduced fines for anyone who breaches any step to mitigate the spread of the virus. This includes failing to self-isolate, visiting a continuing care centre when not allowed, and taking part in a mass gathering of over 15 people.

The fines can be as much as $1,000 and up to $100,000 for a serious offense.

The RMWB is encouraging residents who know of anyone failing to follow any measures to file a complaint.

“We all have a role to play in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and following the mandatory public health orders will play a key role in reducing the spread of this virus,” read the municipality’s statement.

Residents can either file online where it will be assigned to a Health Inspector. They will then assess the complaint and determine the appropriate response.

People can also contact the Pulse Line at 780-743-7000. In this case, a Peace Officer would follow up on the complaint, while also filing an Incident Report with Alberta Health.

Wood Buffalo RCMP will also assist in these complaints if needed.

“Our enforcement staff are working to respond to these complaints and are prepared to do so as long as these public health orders remain in effect.”
