Critical Shortage of Foster Families in Fort McMurray Leaves 15 Children in Need

McMan Foster Care Urgently Seeks Foster Parents in Wood Buffalo

FORT MCMURRAY, AB – McMan Family and Community Services is facing a critical shortage of foster families in Wood Buffalo. The organization, which matches children in need of fostering with foster homes, is urgently seeking placements for 15 children in need. Without local foster caregivers, these children must be relocated to areas with available spaces, resulting in children losing connections with their friends, schools, and communities.

Corie Entrop, the Program Manager for Communications and Engagement, said McMan Family and Community Services is there to help parents interested in helping. “Becoming a foster parent is an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Entorp. “McMan Foster Care is there every step of the way as people become Foster Parents.”

Of particular need in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo are families from the Indigenous and LGBTQS+ communities.

People interested in learning more about becoming a foster caregiver can contact McMan Family and Community Services online through mcman.ca/become a-foster-parent or by calling 780-453-0417.
