Fort McMurray Resident Charged in Alleged $20,000 Fraud Scheme Targeting Over 100 Victims
FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta — A 31-year-old Fort McMurray resident faces numerous charges in connection with an alleged fraud scheme that targeted clients of a local business where they worked.
Wood Buffalo RCMP announced that Allie Ferris is facing 88 counts of fraud under $5,000, as well as charges of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, forgery, and contravention of the Health Information Act.
Authorities began the investigation after a complaint from a business owner on March 31, 2023.
According to RCMP, Ferris allegedly charged clients additional fees, which were sent via e-transfer and subsequently deposited into Ferris’s personal account. Police identified over 100 victims of the alleged scheme, which reportedly siphoned more than $20,000 over a two-year period.
Ferris is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on December 18, 2024.
