Fort McMurray Man Charged for Careless Operation of Dirt Bike
FORT McMURRAY, Alberta— A Fort McMurray man is facing a litany of charges following complaints about the reckless operation of a dirt bike in Fort McMurray. On Friday, October 18th, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to reports of a dirt bike being driven on sidewalks, across lawns, and through backyards near Loutit Road in the Timberlea area.
The alleged incidents took place throughout the afternoon and evening. Surveillance footage provided by residents helped RCMP identify the suspect and the vehicle involved, and police located the vehicle parked at a nearby residence during one of their patrols.
John Carr, 28, faces a raft of charges under the Traffic Safety Act and the Trespass Act, including careless driving, trespassing, driving an uninsured vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without a valid operator’s license, and driving an off-highway vehicle (OHV) on a highway without authorization. RCMP said the charges could result in thousands of dollars in fines. Police have also seized the dirt bike involved in the incidents. Carr is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on January 17, 2025.
The Wood Buffalo RCMP are reminding residents that operating an OHV in this manner is not only illegal but dangerous. Off-highway vehicle use is strictly prohibited on Fort McMurray roads outside of the Abasand neighbourhood and on all sidewalks, parks, green spaces, and urban trails.
