Highway 63 Reopened after Fatal Collision

Fatal Collision Closes Highway 63 Near Range Road 192

ATHABASCA COUNTY, Alberta— A fatal collision on Thanksgiving weekend has left one person dead and briefly closed a section of Highway 63 near Range Road 192.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, around 10:50 p.m.,  an SUV was travelling southbound on Highway 63 when it swerved to avoid a deer and collided with a semi travelling north. Boyle and Athabasca RCMP responded to the collision, assisted by Emergency Medical Services and Athabasca County Fire Services. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

No other passengers were involved in the collision. The highway was temporarily closed while police conducted their investigation, but it has since reopened. Motorists are advised to check Alberta 511 for any road updates.
