Early Morning Vegas Casino Implosion

That’s a hell of a wake up call.

“The Tropicana Las Vegas, once nicknamed the “Tiffany of the Strip” for its opulence, will come tumbling down as Sin City blows up the casino in an elaborate implosion.”

The Tropicana Casino resort is officially rubble. The golden-era Vegas destination had been showing its age before closing earlier this year, as owners Bally’s make way for a large sports complex. Though it has been nearly 10 years since the last Vegas controlled demolition, several hotels and casinos have gone out that way – including the New Frontier, Sands, Stardust, and most recently the Riviera in 2016.

They really went all out with this one, making it a 7-minute celebration with a fireworks display and drone show including 550 drones and 150 pyrodrones. (12:40 start time for the fireworks and 18:50 marks the implosion in the video above)

The kicker for me is that the demolition display happened at 3:30am Vegas time. Doesn’t that seem a tad.. early? The reality is many people on the strip were probably just still awake at the time – I guess this lets the dust settle by the time they wake up with hangovers and make their way to the nearest buffet.

The Tropicana has been featuring in some major movies, such as “The Godfather” and the Bond flick “Diamonds Are Forever” which featured THIS Bond Girl introduction.

Classic.
