Smoke Alarms Save Sleeping Residents in Fort McMurray Mobile Home Fire

FORT McMURRAY, Alberta— Two residents and their pet cat are safe after their mobile home on Cokerill Crescent caught fire early Tuesday morning. The pair were sleeping when the fire started but were awakened when their smoke detectors went off. The occupants were able to escape the home unharmed before Firefighters arrived.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the home nearly engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly worked to bring the fire under control within half an hour.

While the home was destroyed, Regional Emergency Services believe the working smoke detectors were key in helping the occupants escape the blaze before the home became engulfed.
