RRC Loses $900K From 2019 Local Concerts

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo is experiencing a big loss from the local concerts in 2019.

The organization lost over $900,000 from the five performances that included Carrie Underwood, Bryan Adams, and Nickelback.

These performances were part of the Summer Sounds series with the RRC also bringing in two additional Field House concerts.

Despite the deficit, they note the economic impact from the Summer Sounds series was more than $994,000. A Travel Alberta Economic Impact study was conducted to determine the impact the series had on the community.

The RRC also started a survey to determine whether residents enjoyed Summer Sounds.

Nearly 50 per cent said they would have left the community if the local performances didn’t happen, while around 45 per cent added they visited a local restaurant or pub beforehand.

Moving forward, the RRC has announced two Field House Concerts for 2020 – the High Valley and Eli Young Band and Gord Bamford.

Meanwhile, the organization couldn’t share any information regarding next year’s Summer Sounds series.
