The RCMP in Wood Buffalo is investigating a downtown robbery.
Around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18th, police responded to a report of a robbery on Charles Avenue.
RCMP says a delivery driver was approached by someone wielding what appeared to be a handgun. The man demanded money, assaulted the driver, and then fled.
The victim sustained only minor injuries.
Police identified and apprehended the suspect at a nearby residence. Police obtained and executed a search warrant on the residence and recovered an imitation firearm believed to have been used in the robbery.
An 18-year-old Fort McMurray man is now charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of assaulting a police officer, and one count of assault. The individual’s name cannot be disclosed until the charges are formally sworn.
The suspect remains in custody pending a Judicial Interim Hearing.
