A group of dog sledders braved the elements over the weekend to help raise well over $2,000 for a good cause.
Team Controlled Chaos was camping out at Heritage Village – collecting donations for their rescue sled dogs and the Autism Society of Wood Buffalo.
Team member Dave Spearman tells Mix News they are still accepting donations via online.
“Even though the event actually brought in more funds and was the most successful one we’ve had even with calling it early – we still wanted to advocate and do more because we did feel bad that we had to leave. That’s why were still advocating for donations and hoping to push that to the end of the week.”
The group did have to end the campout early on the final day due to conditions, but Spearman says it was amazing to see the community support throughout the weekend.
Controlled Chaos also had several dogs up for adoption – with one family taking a pup home.
Spearman says it warmed their hearts to find a home for one of their pups.
“We were very excited to have that family have a discussion with us to bring Boone into their home. So, we’re looking forward to that transition and the follow-up – seeing pictures and asking how they are.”
Controlled Chaos is still accepting donations online and expect to have an updated donation total by Friday.
