World War I Veteran Being Honoured With Plaque in Syne Point Park

A First World War veteran is being honoured in Fort McMurray.

The RMWB, Parks Canada, and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada are recognizing C.H. “Punch” Dickins with a plaque in Snye Point Park.

Dickins was a distinguished pilot with the Royal Flying Corps during the Great War and a pioneering bush pilot in Canada’s North during the 1920s and 1930s.

A float plane similar to the one flown by Dickins will circle the ceremony to kickoff the event. It will takeoff and launch in the waterway at Snye Point Park.

Students from cole Dickinsfield School, which is named after the pilot, will pay homage to Dickins by singing O Canada in English and French.

The ceremony gets underway at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at Snye Point Park.
