The Mikisew Cree First Nation (MCFN) is announcing the winners of their election for Chief and Council.
With 45.79 per cent of the vote, Billy-Joe Tuccaro will serve another term as Chief of the First Nation.
Tuccaro beat our four other candidates, including Kevin Courtoreille, who finished second with 23 per cent of the vote. Rounding out the rest of the vote for Chief was former Councillor Russell Kaskamin (13.5 per cent), Calvin Waquan (12.8 per cent), and Wayne Wylie (3.4 per cent).
A total of 20 people ran for council with six spots to fill.
Roxanne Marcel (28.5 per cent), Bonnie Fraser (25.8 per cent), and Sherri Mae McKenzie (25.5 per cent) were all re-elected.
Newcomer Tammie Tuccaro will be joining them, who received the majority of the votes with 42 per cent, and rounding out the rest of council with Dillon Whitehead (28.7 per cent) and Paul Tuccaro (27.5 per cent).
Over 800 ballots were cast in the July 20th election representing just over 35 per cent of the eligible voters.
The election was initially scheduled for June but was delayed due to the evacuation of Fort Chipewyan due to the Rocky River Wildfire.
