Wood Buffalo Bucks are now available for purchase through the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce.
The new shop-local initiative is a joint effort between the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce and Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism.
Individuals purchase gift-card style “Wood Buffalo Bucks” in denominations of $25, $50, and $100 from the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce. The money can be used at participating local businesses.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of Wood Buffalo Bucks, an exciting program designed to support local shopping in our community,” says Dianna de Sousa, Executive Director of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce.
“By supporting our local businesses, we not only invest in their success but also forge stronger connections and create a sustainable future for all.”
The impact of similar shop-local initiatives has been substantial. Communities have seen nearly $500,000 reinvested back into the community.
“Small businesses are foundational to economic prosperity in our region,” says Kevin Weidlich, President and CEO of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism.
“Partnering with the Chamber on this initiative to spur local spending and increase economic activity will contribute to the retention and expansion of existing local businesses.”
There is a diverse selection of over 100 businesses participating in the program. The Wood Buffalo Bucks can be purchased online through the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce.
