What You Need to Know Ahead of the Federal Election

Canadians will be heading to the ballots on October 21 to choose the party they believe should lead the country for the next four-years.

People can vote as early as Friday in the Advance Polls. They will be open from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. from October 11-14.

Voter cards are in the mail and will tell you where you can vote and can be used as one form of identification.

Five candidates are running for the riding of Fort McMurray-Cold Lake.

David Yurdiga for the Conservatives, Maggie Farrington for the Liberals, Matthew Barrett for the People’s Party of Canada, Brian Deheer for the Green Party, and Matthew Gilks for the NDP.

A live debate is being put on by Mix 103.7, the Fort McMurray Today, and the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce.

Farrington, Barrett, and Deheer have confirmed their attendance. Yurdiga will not be attending as he recovers from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision.

“In consultation with my physicians, I have reduced the number of activities in which I will be participating.”

It’s being held at the Quality Inn & Conference Centre in Gregoire on October 15. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with the debate taking place from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
