June 1 – Fort Chipewyan Wildfire Update

The RMWB is reporting, along with Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Mikisew Cree First Nation, and the Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation that they have safely evacuated over 750 people from Fort Chipewyan to Fort McMurray.

The Municipality states anyone in Fort Chipewyan that hasn’t left, should request a seat on a plane through the Pulse line.

As of 10:30 p.m. last night (May 31), the RMWB says there has been no damage reported to any structures in Fort Chipewyan.

Alberta Wildfire is leading the fight against the wildfire with three helitack crews, six helicopters for bucketing operations, and two airtanker groups with more resources arriving today.

The RMWB says dozens of firefighters and emergency responders are remaining in the area to protect homes and buildings and putting structural protection systems in place with the help of heavy equipment, numerous fire trucks, and a tanker and pumper on standby.

The out-of-control wildfire is burning roughly six kilometers from Allison Bay and is around 8,600 hectares in size.

If your pet was evacuated, Bylaw Services informs they are now located at Centerfire Place.

If you have been separated from your pet, it is advised to pick them up as soon as possible.

A fire ban and OHV restriction remain in effect and Alberta Wildfire urges everyone to exercise caution, as wildfires can easily ignite and spread rapidly.
