The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is honouring Guy Choquet with the Key to the Region.
Choquet is retiring following a career of over 40 years with the Canadian Red Cross.
Most recently, he served as the Director of Fire Recovery in Fort McMurray, a role that extended to supporting community response and recovery from the 2020 flood and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Key to the Region is given to those for which we have tremendous gratitude for their exceptional service, and it demonstrates our respect for what they’ve done,” says Mayor Bowman.
“Guy is such a special part of our community, and his leadership and compassion were deeply meaningful, coming at some of our most challenging times.”
The Key to the Region is part of the Council’s Citizen Recognition Program, which is governed by the Citizen Recognition Program. The program also includes Council’s Excellence Awards.
“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this recognition,” says Choquet.
“I accept it on behalf of everyone that worked tirelessly to help everyone in need as the community navigated these successive challenges.”
Mayor Bowman made the presentation at a retirement gathering held at the Golden Years Society in Choquet’s honour, attended by his colleagues, friends, and supporters.
