COVID-19 is claiming the life of another individual in Fort McMurray.

The province announced on Wednesday two new deaths from the virus across Alberta with one reportedly living in the community according to the virus data map.

Not much is known about the individual due to patient confidentiality.

Across the RMWB, there have been a total of 19 deaths from COVID in just under one year.

Eighteen of these residents lived in Fort McMurray, while one lived in the rural areas.

However, multiple Indigenous leaders claim members have passed away outside of the region and haven’t been added to the local numbers.

Meanwhile, there are 41 active COVID-19 cases in Fort McMurray and 21 in the rural areas.

Among the other major communities in Alberta – Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, and Medicine Hat – the community has the least number of cases.

Calgary is dealing with over 1,500, while Edmonton has over 1,200.

Lethbridge is the closest to Fort McMurray’s active total as they currently have 111.

Hospitalizations are also continuing to rise.

As of Wednesday, 184 people were being treated for the virus with 48 of these individuals in the ICU.
