Survey Suggests Don Scott Favourite To Be Mayor Following Election

A recently conducted survey shows Don Scott is the favourite to be the mayor following this year’s municipal election.

Mainstreet Research called 836 eligible voters from June 28-30 to determine who residents are currently considering to lead Wood Buffalo council.

This represents around six per cent of the number of individuals who voted for one of the four mayoral candidates in the 2017 election.

According to the survey, over 20 per cent stated they would vote for Scott if he planned to run again.

The current candidates Verna Murphy and Mike Allen came in at 8.4 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively.

Sandy Bowman, who has already completed the nomination process to run for one of six Ward One council seats, was also mentioned in the survey –  receiving nearly 12 per cent.

Just over half of those who took part noted they’re currently undecided.

Mainstreet states they are 95 per cent confident with the results.

Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters, Scott said he will be announcing his decision on whether he’ll run again in the near future.

He adds he wants to make it through the next council meeting, slated for Tuesday, July 13, before sharing his plans.

This is the last scheduled meeting before the summer break.
