Fort McMurray’s active COVID-19 cases is slightly dropping.
The province announced on Thursday 73 new cases over the past 24-hours.
There are currently 1,580 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 231,641 positive tests.
There are also 190 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 50 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added three new cases and seven recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 36.
The rural areas saw one new case and one recovery, keeping the active total at three.
In total, 6,938 individuals across the RMWB – 6,609 in Fort McMurray and 329 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 227,768 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 98 per cent of reported cases.
There was also one new death from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,293.
To date, 16 individuals in Fort McMurray and one in the rural areas have died as a result of the virus. However, Indigenous leaders have claimed members have passed away in other communities not in the RMWB.
Vaccine Update
Over 63 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and 44 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.
Those who got their first shot in May or earlier can also set a time to receive their second.
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in Fort McMurray:
- 75+: 514 people (70 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,901 people (71 per cent)
- 40-59: 16,483 people (70 per cent)
- 20-39: 15,431 people (55 per cent)
- 12-19: 4,113 people (60 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 61 people (58 per cent)
- 60-74: 285 people (56 per cent)
- 40-59: 594 people (51 per cent)
- 20-39: 385 people (33 per cent)
- 12-19: 166 people (35 per cent)
