RMWB’s Active Total Of COVID Cases Drops Under 50

Fort McMurray’s active COVID-19 cases is continuing to drop.

The province also announced on Tuesday 57 new cases over the past 24-hours.

There are currently 1,773 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 231,476 positive tests.

There are also 200 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 54 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added one new case and 12 recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 43.

The rural areas saw no new cases and no recoveries, keeping the active total at three.

In total, 6,924 individuals across the RMWB – 6,596 in Fort McMurray and 328 in the rural areas – have recovered.

They are among the 227,413 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 98 per cent of reported cases.

Vaccine Update

Just over 63 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and nearly 44 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.

Those who got their first shot in May or earlier can also set a time to receive their second.

This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in Fort McMurray:

  • 75+: 514 people (70 per cent)
  • 60-74: 4,886 people (71 per cent)
  • 40-59: 16,306 people (70 per cent)
  • 20-39: 15,389 people (54 per cent)
  • 12-19: 4,097 people (59 per cent)

This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:

  • 75+: 61 people (58 per cent)
  • 60-74: 285 people (56 per cent)
  • 40-59: 591 people (50 per cent)
  • 20-39: 380 people (32 per cent)
  • 12-19: 161 people (34 per cent)

Walk-In Clinic

Those looking to get their first shot can go to MacDonald Island Park.

Walk-ins are being accepted Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The clinic will also be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
