Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is continuing to rise.

The province announced on Friday 1,616 new cases across the province.

There are currently 16,759 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 167,793 positive tests. There are also 423 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 93 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added 79 new cases and 47 recoveries which raises the active total to 638.

The rural areas added six new cases and two recoveries, putting the total of active cases at 19.

Wood Buffalo National Park remains at zero active cases.

In total, 2,226 individuals across the RMWB – 2,071 in Fort McMurray, 144 in the rural areas, and 11 in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 149,000 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 89 per cent of reported cases.

There were no new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – keeping the total at 2,034.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
