Keyano No Longer Offering Environmental Sciences Degree

Students will no longer be able to get an Environmental Sciences Degree at Keyano College.

The post-secondary school, in consultation with Mount Royal University, has decided to not renew a five-year agreement to offer the course due to a lack of enrollment.

Since starting up in 2017, Keyano has seen very little interest with the course needing between 10 to 15 students annually to be deemed viable.

“We are committed to working with MRU to ensure our third-year students are provided viable options and our fourth-year students will graduate as planned,” said Fred Russell, Keyano VP, Academic.

Both schools say they plan to continue collaborating on future projects.

“MRU has valued this partnership with Keyano College,” added Dr. Jonathan Withey, Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology at Mount Royal University

“Our immediate interest is to ensure the students enrolled in the program receive the support they need to successfully complete their studies.”

The current agreement is set to expire on August 31, 2021.

Meanwhile, Keyano will continue to offer the Environmental Technology Diploma and the Community-Based Environmental Monitoring Program.
