Fort McMurray is seeing another dip in active COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Thursday 461 new cases across the province.

There are currently 8,041 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 122,821 positive tests. There are also 591 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 112 of which are in ICUs.

Locally, Fort McMurray added one new case and six additional recoveries which lowers the active total to 102.

The rural areas added one new case which raises the total of active cases to seven, while there are no active cases in Wood Buffalo National Park.

In total, 1,707 individuals across the RMWB – 1,574 in Fort McMurray, 124 in the rural areas, and nine in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.

They are among the 113,174 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 92 per cent of reported cases.

There were also seven new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 1,606.

To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.

Vaccine Deployment Plan

Alberta’s supply of the Pfizer vaccine is once again being cut.

That’s according to Tyler Shandro, the province’s Health Minister, who also announced on Thursday they’ve been told by the federal government the number of doses being shipped is being reduced for a third time this month.

He notes they were told after the first cuts the province would still receive all 468,000 doses promised for the first quarter by the end of March.

However, Shandro adds they’re now being told we’ll be getting around 63,000 fewer vaccines.

“The federal government is failing Canadians. This is a grim situation that seems to be getting worse every week.

Shandro’s calling on the government to quickly fix any issues with the COVID-19 supply and fulfill the promise they gave to the province.
