Fort McMurray is seeing a slight rise in active COVID-19 cases.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday 456 new cases across the province.
This raises the provincial total to 117,767 with 11,096 currently active. There are also 740 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 119 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 12 new cases and 11 additional recoveries which raises the active total to 169.
The rural areas added one recovery which puts the total of active cases at two, while another two people in Wood Buffalo National Park continue to have the virus.
In total, 1,572 individuals across the RMWB – 1,442 in Fort McMurray, 123 in the rural areas, and seven in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.
They are among the 105,208 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 89 per cent of reported cases.
There were also 17 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 1,463.
To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
COVID School Update
Two more schools in Fort McMurray are dealing with COVID-19 cases.
An individual with ties to St. Martha School and another with ties to Timberlea Public School have tested positive for the virus.
People who need to self-isolate will have already been contacted, while both schools remain open.
Father Mercredi is also dealing with one case, while two cases have popped up with people associated with St. Gabriel School.
