RCMP Investigating Drowning At MacDonald Island Park Pool

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating a drowning at MacDonald Island Park.

The Mounties were called to the facility on December 12 after getting reports of a 34-year-old man in distress.

The public was able to register for time slots to use the pool.

It was officially closed off on December 13 as part of the new COVID-19 measures introduced by the provincial government.

The man was transported to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre where he was treated for around five days.

He was transported to an Edmonton area hospital on December 17 via air ambulance for further medical care, however, he passed away the next day.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section is now investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the family.
