Forty-one new cases of COVID-19 are being discovered in Wood Buffalo over the past 96 hours.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday 619 new cases across the province. This raises the provincial total to 15,093 with 1,692 currently active.

Fort McMurray now has 66 active cases after discovering 40 new cases and seeing seven additional recoveries.

The rural areas saw one new case raising the active total to two.

Across the RMWB, 160 individuals – 100 in Fort McMurray and 60 in the rural areas – have recovered from the virus.

They are among the 13,154 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 87 per cent of reported cases.

There were five new deaths from COVID-19 over the past 96 hours – raising the the death toll to 247.

Fort Mcmurray saw its first COVID-19 related death, however nothing else is known about the individual.

Meanwhile, the GoA has also put the RMWB on the provincial watch list due to the recent spike in cases.
