Another Individual At Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake Tests Positive For COVID-19

Another individual at Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake site has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a letter sent from CIVEO, which oversees the camping lodges, they were informed on Thursday an employee had contracted the virus after coming in contact with a positive case off-site.

The individual is reportedly at the Wapasu Lodge West isolation dorm and is under medical supervision.

CIVEO is asking employees who’re working on-site and aren’t showing any symptoms to continue completing the daily COVID-19 protocol screening, while those with any symptoms should isolate themselves in their dorm and contact their supervisor.

Individuals currently off-site without symptoms should monitor themselves, while those with symptoms are asked to self-isolate for 14 days and follow their regional guidelines for further steps.

Mix News has reached out to Imperial Oil but has yet to receive a response.

Meanwhile, Kearl Lake is coming off the biggest outbreak in the oilsands.

From April to May, 114 individuals with ties to the site tested positive for the virus.

The outbreak was officially declared over in mid-June after the site went 30 days without any new cases.
