You’re getting a chance to share your thoughts on supervised consumption sites.

The federal government is looking for public feedback about using more of these sites to potentially help combat the opioid crisis across the country.

“The evidence shows us that supervised consumption sites and services save lives and can provide people who use drugs with access to health and social services and treatment,” said Patty Hajdu, Canada’s Minister of Health.

“As we see the COVID-19 outbreak worsening the situation for Canadians struggling with substance use disorders, it is more important than ever to ensure support is available.”

Multiple sites have been set up across the country, including in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Grande Prairie, however, the opioid crisis continues to be a big issue.

In just Alberta, from January to March 2020, 142 died from an apparent opioid overdose.

One of these deaths was in Fort McMurray, the lowest amount among the major provincial communities.

The public has until October 14, 2020, to share their thoughts.
