Two new cases of COVID-19 are popping up in the RMWB.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Thursday 113 new cases across the province.

This raises the provincial total to 10,716 with 1,408 currently active.

One of the new local cases is in Fort McMurray, raising the active total to five.

The rural areas have added an additional case, while two more individuals have recovered. This puts the active total outside the urban service area at eight.

Across the RMWB, 100 individuals – 56 in Fort McMurray and 44 in the rural areas – have recovered from the virus.

They are among the 9,113 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents 85 per cent of reported cases.

The Alberta death toll is now at 195.

None of the deaths have been in the RMWB.

Meanwhile, the province is expanding asymptomatic testing to all pharmacies.

The pharmacies must sign up and can choose not to participate. Residents are encouraged to call their pharmacy to see if they are providing the tests.

Also, Hinshaw says results from the anonymous testing they did in early June shows around one per cent had previously contracted the virus.

Over 9,000 blood samples were tested, however, they estimate around 36,000 Alberta most likely had COVID-19 as of May 20. At the time, around 6,000 were identified through swab tests.
