RCMP Deputy Commissioner Announces Retirement
Edmonton — After nearly four decades of public service, Deputy Commissioner Rob Hill is retiring from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
Hill, who took command of the Alberta RCMP last year, announced he is stepping down after 27 years with the police force and several years as a medic in the Canadian Armed Forces.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision for me, but after some very serious thought, and many discussions with my family, I have decided that it is time,” Hill said in a statement. “The Alberta RCMP is the epitome of that mantra, and the division is made up of dedicated, hardworking professionals who have committed themselves to making Alberta a safe and secure place to live. I couldn’t have been prouder to lead such a talented group of people.”
As Commanding Officer, Hill oversaw Alberta’s second-largest RCMP division, which serves as the province’s contract police force, provides municipal policing to large communities including Fort McMurray, and works on joint law enforcement operations.
Before leading Alberta’s RCMP, Hill served as Commanding Officer of the Manitoba RCMP after three years as its Criminal Operations Officer.
An interim Commanding Officer will be appointed on Hill’s departure, with a permanent replacement to follow. No exact departure date has been set.
