RCMP Investigate Neo-Nazi Flags at Anti-Immigration Protest in St. Albert
The RCMP’s hate crimes unit is investigating after a small group of masked protesters waved neo-Nazi flags and performed Nazi salutes during an anti-immigration demonstration in St. Albert over the weekend.
The protesters gathered along St. Albert Trail, holding signs suggesting Canada was becoming a third-world country and said, “Deport Them All”. Witnesses reported that some members of the group gave passing motorists the Nazi’s Sieg Heil salute. St. Albert RCMP were called to the scene, and the protesters dispersed after officers spoke with them.
Community leaders in St. Albert and Edmonton have condemned the demonstration, calling it an appalling display of racism and hate. In an emailed statement, the RCMP said they are committed to ensuring communities remain free from discrimination and bias, adding that they are taking the incident extremely seriously.
No charges have been laid, but the investigation is ongoing.
