Youth Arrested After Stabbing at MacDonald Island Park
FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — A male youth remains in custody following a stabbing at MacDonald Island Park on Saturday evening that left a 41-year-old man injured.
Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services responded to reports of an altercation in the facility’s fitness area shortly after 8 p.m. on January 4. Nearly a dozen officers attended the scene, where they found the victim suffering from one or more stab wounds. He was transported to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Corporal Patrick Lambert, RCMP Public Information Officer, the suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody pending a judicial bail hearing. Police are unable to disclose the specific charges until they are sworn in court.
A video of the altercation is reportedly circulating online, and RCMP are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. Witnesses can contact Wood Buffalo RCMP directly or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
