House Fire Severely Damages Home in Fort McMurray 468 First Nation

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — A house in the Fort McMurray 468 First Nation was severely damaged in a fire this weekend.

On Saturday around 9 a.m., Regional Emergency Services received a 9-1-1 call about a fire on Lakeshore Drive at Gregoire Lake. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames.

Two pumper trucks and two tanker trucks were deployed, and crews were able to bring the fire under control within half an hour. However, the blaze proved stubborn, and hotspots deep within the structure continued to smoulder.

An excavator was brought in after 2 p.m. to open sections of the home, allowing firefighters to fully extinguish the remaining fire. Crews remained on the scene until after 3:30 p.m.

No one was hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
