RCMP Name Suspect in Thickwood Gunfire Incident

Man in Custody Following Gunfire Incident in Thickwood

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — A 23-year-old Fort McMurray man remains in custody after being arrested following an early morning gunfire incident on Tuesday in the Thickwood neighbourhood.

Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a firearms complaint at an apartment building on Spruce Street around 5 a.m. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots coming from inside the suspected apartment. Police secured the area to ensure public safety.

The suspect, identified as Brandon Power, attempted to evade arrest by jumping off an exterior balcony but was apprehended without further incident.

Power faces multiple charges, including careless use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm with intent, and three counts of failing to comply with release conditions. After obtaining a search warrant, police seized a handgun believed to have been used in the incident.

The Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.
