Butting Heads at the Holidays

A simple poll by Trust & Will suggests that nearly half of families will be fighting over the holidays, at least a little bit. And as much as we try to get past those disagreements, they may have lasting effects.

The main statistic formulated was that 40% of families will have an open disagreement over the holidays, and that 1/3 of those fights will be lasting rifts that could even impact will and estate planning decisions. Topics to avoid? Politics, past family grievances, relationships and finances. Great. I guess movies, your spotify wrapped, and the weather we’re having lately will be the cornerstone topics of every conversation.

They also indicate that the most conflict-prone generations are Generation Z and Millenials. Gen Xers and Baby Boomers prefer to avoid those conflicts, and the Silent Generation seems to largely pretend that there are never any family conflicts to speak of whatsoever. I’m sensing a generational flow here.
