Fort McMurray, Alta. – A devastating collision struck the downtown restaurant on Saturday, when a pickup truck drove into the building, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old employee.

The incident occurred at 11:36 a.m. when Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to reports of a Ford F350 crashing into the downtown Boston Pizza, causing extensive structural damage. Upon arrival, RCMP investigators discovered that a female employee had been struck by the vehicle. She was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, Calgary resident, 28-year-old Roger Sierra who was the sole occupant, has been taken into custody with charges of with, Criminal Negligence Causing Death.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased,” Alberta RCMP shared in a public statement. “This tragic loss of life is deeply felt by the family and the entire community.”
The restaurant has temporarily closed for repairs as crews assess the damage, and officials urge the public to avoid the area. More details are expected as the investigation continues.
