Contractor Facing Charges in 2023 Worker Death at Mildred Lake
FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta— Pacific Rim Industrial faces charges under Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act following the death of a worker at Syncrude’s Mildred Lake site in June 2023.
The contractor’s employee, Milo Sagmoen , was working on a Chemtrade building where he was removing construction material. Sagmoen fell through the roof, later succumbing to his injuries. The province alleges that Pacific Rim Industrial failed to protect Sagmoen from falling and did not have a fall protection plan in place for its workers. Pacific Rim Industrial is facing four counts under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
The matter will be first heard on December 11th at Alberta’s Court of Justice in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
