Fort McMurray Wildfires Under Control as Season Nears End

Crews with Alberta Wildfire have successfully brought all blazes burning in the Fort McMurray Forest Area under control. Currently, there are just eight active fires remaining.

The region experienced 101 wildfires this year, burning a total of 287,496 hectares of forest, an area roughly three times the size of Halifax.

Recent rains have lowered the fire danger to low. The official wildfire season in Alberta ends on October 31st, and Alberta Wildfire is already recruiting crews for the 2025 season.
