Singh Calls for Emergency Meeting Over Alleged Indian Links to Violence in Canada
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is calling for an emergency meeting of Parliament’s public safety committee. This comes after the RCMP announced links between agents of the Government of India and violent acts on Canadian soil, including homicides. At a press conference yesterday, Singh described the revelations as “deeply disturbing.”
“We demand that the Liberal government implement severe sanctions on Indian diplomats and banish the RSS [Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh], a violent, militant, terrorist organization from India, which is a group that operates here in Canada and in other countries as well,” Singh said
India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has denied the accusations, instead accusing Canada of harbouring Khalistan separatists. Tensions between the two countries have escalated this week, with no signs of calm as Singh continues to push for action from Prime Minister Trudeau’s government.
