Mike Myers = Wayne Campbell

I watched this video a couple of days ago, and I keep thinking about it. I’ve enjoyed several of the deep dive film analysis videos from this CinemaStix channel on Youtube – they always seem to be able to include something I had never known or noticed before.

And when I tell you I’ve seen Wayne’s World and the SNL sketches it’s largely based on many MANY times, you’ll know how enjoyable it was to learn some new things about the history of the Wayne Campbell character. Not to mention seeing archival footage of the origins of the character that I had never seen before.

It’s more than just an ancient recurring SNL sketch, this has been a part of Mike Myers and a part of the Canadian culture since he could string together a few words to get a laugh. I especially enjoy just how much Wayne looked like Terry Cahill of FUBAR fame at the beginning, before the flannel was passed off to Garth Algar.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go watch the seminal 90’s comedy directed by Penelope Spheeris for the millionth time. Party on.
