LOLLAPALOOZA Makes History: First Major U.S. Festival to Power Main Stage with Hybrid Battery System

Lollapalooza is making history with a stellar lineup featuring SZA, Tyler, The Creator, blink-182, The Killers, Hozier, and Future x Metro Boomin. The four-day Chicago festival will be the first major U.S. music event to power its main stage with a hybrid battery system, according to C3 Presents.

“We aim to create a sustainable future for music festivals by embracing bold solutions and new technologies,” said Jake Perry, C3 Presents’ director of operations and sustainability. Partnering with Green Nation, T-Mobile, and CES Power, the festival will use over 1.5 Mwh of battery storage, drastically reducing biodiesel generator use.

“Lollapalooza’s initiatives support Green Nation’s goal of halving emissions by 2030 while reducing noise and air pollution,” said Lucy August-Perna, Live Nation’s head of global sustainability. “We look forward to sharing our findings with over 200 festivals worldwide.”
