Hospital bed races return for 2024

The annual Hospital Bed Races are back for another year.

The Northern Lights Health Foundation (NLHF) fundraiser will take place on Sept. 21, 2024, at Snye Point Park. The event features teams of four competing in a series of 50-meter sprints while pushing a 150-pound hospital bed to the finish line. Participants compete not only to be the fastest bed but also to show team spirit and raise money.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Hospital Bed Races,” said Vanessa MacNevin, executive director of NLHF. “This event is not just about fun and competition; it’s about uniting our community to support vital healthcare initiatives in our region.”

Participants are asked to raise pledges, with the money going toward supporting local healthcare projects. The funds help maintain services and advanced medical care within Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

“With Bed Races being a peer-to-peer fundraiser, we truly rely on the dedication and determination of the teams to fundraise their way to the starting line,” said Stephanie MacKenzie, fund development, community initiatives, and events officer with the foundation. “The fundraising competition between teams can get quite intense, and it’s inspiring to see how much this cause means to them.”
