A new initiative aimed at reducing crime is on its way to Fort McMurray, courtesy of the RCMP, and it won’t cost you a nickel.
Police are offering residents a state-of-the-art forensic identification kit that allows people to mark their valuables to allow law enforcement to identify and return stolen goods more easily.
Called ProtechDNA, the kit consists of a forensic adhesive that can be swabbed on all types of property. The adhesive then links the valuables to their owner.
The technology is already in use by over 10,000 law enforcement agencies and has won numerous accolades including Popular Science’s “Best New Technology” award.
The kits are available free of charge at the RCMP detachment at 105 Paquette Drive.
