The last Wednesday in February is Pink Shirt Day – a day for solidarity and to send a loud-and-clear message to youth and adults alike that bullying will not be accepted, and that those who are victimized by it are far from alone and far from without support.
As there are no classes for students at the two major school districts in Wood Buffalo next week due to Teacher’s Convention, Pink Shirt Day is being observed this week by our local schools. Today (Feb 21) is the date for FMPSD schools, meanwhile FMCSD schools will observe the day on Friday (Feb 23).
Our own Jimmy White, who you can hear on the Lockerroom recap in town, is a staunch advocate of Pink Shirt Day, and will once again be hosting a live-streamed panel about bullying and his experiences throughout life on Wednesday Feb 28th – available for individuals and classrooms across the country. You can find out more about it right here.
