The Keyano Huskies soccer team suitcases are a little heavier following the Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) Soccer Championships in Edmonton.
The men’s team was crowned the champions of the outdoor season, winning gold for the first time since 2017, and for the fourth time in ACAC history.
The men defeated the NAIT Ooks with a final score of 2-2 and a save by McMurrayite goalkeeper, Corbin Cyprien, who was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
The women’s team took home silver for the first time in history.
The women were defeated by the SAIT Trojans with a final score of 2-2.
Seven players from the teams were honoured on the ACAC All-Conference Teams which include Cleisson Anklam, Karl Tronche, William Ly, and James Bartha from the men’s team, and Felicia Rodney, Harleen Singh, and Marissa Mestre from the women’s.
“Our athletes have followed the Huskies’ mission on and off the field and are now able to reap the benefits of their hard work and dedication,” said the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams, Niels Slotboom.
Head Coach, Niels Slotboom, was also recognized as the ACAC Men’s Soccer North Division Coach of the Year.
“Niels has been a catalyst in bringing our Men’s Soccer program back to their current standing as a leading program in the conference and threat for the ACAC podium,” said Director of Athletics & Recreation at Keyano College, Jonathan Lambert.
“This award is well-deserved and recognizes the path to success on which he’s put this program.”
Keyano says they are proud of the teams and look forward to future victories and success.
