The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are promoting from within to fill its vacant Assistant Coach position.
Throughout last season, Sara Diamond served as the team’s power skating and skills coach.
Hailing from Bonavista, Newfoundland, she brings with her extensive experience as a hockey instructor and player development professional, having worked at Diamond Edge Factory.
“We are thrilled to be expanding Sara’s role into next season,” says Adam Manah, Head Coach and General Manager for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
“When we brought her on board at the start of last season, we knew we were getting a quality person, but one that fit our coaching staff perfectly.”
In her role as Assistant Coach, Diamond will be introducing a new teaching tool for communicating with players shift-to-shift using iPads, similar to coaching practices in the NHL.
“She will be able to not only help us with in-game adjustments against the opposition, but with the players as well,” adds Manah.
“To simply have them re-watch what happened on the previous play will help create a better picture for them before their next shift.”
Diamond says she is humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to advance in the coaching ranks.
“I am very honoured to be a part of a renowned organization such as the MOB and look forward to getting started in August,” says Diamond.
Manah believes that Diamond’s passion for the game will make a great contribution to her expanded role within the coaching staff.
