Alberta Wildfire says people in and around Fort Chipewyan may see a smoke column over the next few days.
The province says the plume is from some growth on the north-east flank of the Rocky River Fire, but it does not pose a threat to the hamlet.
Authorities stress the fire no longer poses a threat to the community of Fort Chipewyan, Allison Bay, Dog Head, or the Fort Chipewyan airport.
Anyone with smoke related health concerns should visit Alberta Health Services or call 811 for health advice from Alberta Health Link.
The Rocky River Fire is currently classified as “being held” and remains just over 60,000 hectares in size.
As we head into the long weekend, the fire hazard for the Fort McMurray Forest Area is listed as Moderate. Firefighters are urging everyone to continue to use caution as a wildfire will ignite easily and spread quickly.
There remains a fire restriction in our region, meaning fireworks, as well as fires on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas are prohibited. You are allowed campfires on private lands, provincial campgrounds, and backyard fires within the RMWB.
